August 1, 2007 We had an impromptu Palensky salmon feed last night. Fred Olney came and cooked a 16# springer that Michael, John and Garth had caught this year, using the old Indian technique of weaving a cedar frame and allowing the butterflied fish to cook indirectly over the smoke in our fire pit. It was absolutely, uniquely delicious! Along with a work-of-art fruit salad, a luscious green salad, and to-die-for scalloped potatoes, there were home made apple and blackberry pies, led off by John’s favorite appetizer, olives! The kids and friends who attended just held John and me in a cradle of love and support and we let ourselves be babied shamelessly! I couldn’t find my camera, so we have to depend on the kids and friends who did manage to take pictures to email more of them to us so I can put them up here on the website. John didn’t eat much, but he tasted a bit of everything and really enjoyed having everyone here. He’s always loved being “camp central,” both here and at Buoy 10. Last night was a perfect night, the big trees dancing in the background, comfortable outside temperature perfectly complemented by the warm glow of friendship emanating from the tight circle around John. Perfect! |
